The Desert 5k!!!

"The more I run, the more talented I get."
                                                                   - - Bob Hodge

A little over a year ago this course was officially measured backward and forward to insure accuracy by a registered U.S. Track and Field course measurer.

It's difficult to believe how slow the times are for a 5k but if you've run the course you would understand.

A few brave souls came out for the race in the desert yesterday.  This is the third time the team has had an opportunity to run on this course and the fifth time there has been a race on what is most likely the most difficult 5k course in New England and for all we know anywhere.

Congratulations to Dallin Smith with a time of 22:45 establishing a new course record and becoming the only person to crack 23 minutes on the course.   Robbie Rocchio finished closely behind for second followed by some old guy.

Congratulations also goes to Marissa McPhillips the Narragansett runner with a time of 28:35 in what is thought to be the current women's course record. Coach McCaffrey is the only other runner on record to break 30 minutes. Yes, this is a very difficult course!  Kate Thomas took second place followed by Caroline Rocchio and the newest addition to the team Jamie Hazel.

The guys and girls warm up with some dynamics.

Here we see Marissa leading a pack of runners up Paradise Hill.

Dallin Smith leads the front pack up Paradise Hill.

The group leaves Paradise Hill and heads in the direction of Hashbrown Hill.

Jamie, Alexa and Caroline (left to right) attack Paradise Hill for the second time in the race.
