The Top 10 In Season NKXC Goals


NK XC Top Ten Goals

 

 

#1     Everyone Counts (maybe give tootsie-pop, popsicle, etc)

·        Perfect attendance practice days

·        Everyone wears a watch day

·        Shirt & tie day, etc

 

#2     Expectations: each athlete is expected…

·       We are Student/Athletes and as such we expect the same
      hard work ethic to prevail in the classroom

·        Chemical Health Policy (partying will ruin TEAM dynamic)

·        Summer training needs to be logged. Totals will be sent out to the team
      in periodic e-mails. If the TEAM reaches a summer mileage goal
     (ex: 7000 miles) then participating athletes get a t-shirt

·        Warm-up as a TEAM, no splinter groups

·        After a race, when an NK runner finishes, he/she is expected to walk
      back to the finish line and cheer in all of their teammates. 
      The “No Drama” Rule is in effect.

·        Race to win…to do one’s best

 

#3     Success is celebrated for individuals and TEAM

·        Rock Solid Award

·        Skipper Award

·        Eagle Award

 

#4     We will build alumni and parent relationships…

·        Weekly e-mails

·        NK XC Blogspot

·        Parent Handbook

·        Alumni stories of success

 

#5     We will come together both inside & outside of XC…

·        Pasta Fests     

·        Camp Excel-erate

·        Mini-golf, movies, bowling, pool parties, kayaking, apple picking, etc

·        Summer Captain’s Practices

 

 

 

#6     We will race as we train…

·        Everyone is expected to train and race hard (no slackers)

·        Athletes encouraged to train & race in their group/pack

·        Establish a listing of training groups (different names for the
      same species – cats, warriors, etc)

·        If someone needs to stop…the entire group does not stop

 

#7     Our goals are TEAM first…

·        Determine measurable goals and have each athlete stand and state
     whether they will work towards these:

-TEAM goals

-Individual goals

 

#8     The program needs to be a special key experience…

·        Team Season Yearbook

·        NK XC Blogspot

·        Community Service (ex: CVS Charities, Souper Races, etc)

·        Encourage life long running and good decision making

 

#9     We have traditions that matter…

·        Group circle before races

·        Team Season Yearbook

·        Ekiden Senior Night Relay

·        Rock Solid, Skipper, Eagle Awards

 

#10   Building relationships with others…

·        Everyone is treated with dignity and respect

·        Sportsmanship and Character

So…what difference does the TEAM make?

          -Gives kids a group to fall back on (a terrific peer group)

          -We’ve had individuals with tremendous character over the years

          -The TEAM concept helps kids believe that they can put themselves out there to

 succeed or to struggle & grow…but they know that they are not alone!
