Aisha McAdams is running well for Stonehill in the Northeast - 10 Conference.

EASTON, Mass. (October 29, 2013) – Stonehill College freshman Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Women’s Cross Country Rookie of the Week, it was announced today by the league office.
McAdams earns this distinction for the first time in her career following her seventh place finish at Sunday’s Northeast-10 Championship, held on the campus of Saint Anselm College in Manchester, N.H. Stonehill captured its fifth consecutive conference title, and 12th championship since 2000 with its decisive victory. The freshman was one of four Skyhawks to finish in the top-10 at the race, and the first overall freshman to finish, doing so in a personal best time of 18:40. McAdams’ seventh-place effort also earned her First Team All-Northeast-10 honors.
The 2013 North Kingstown High School graduate has been impressive all season for the Skyhawks, beginning with a tenth-place finish in her first collegiate meet at the Shacklette Invitational on September 7th. She followed that up by posting a time of 23:44.08 at the 6-kilometer Division II Challenge on September 14th, good for 30th place, and then ran to an 11th place finish at the 33rd Annual Codfish Bowl (5k) on September 28th, doing so in 19:39.
In her most recent race prior to the Northeast-10 Championship, McAdams finished 114th out of 283 total participants, many of which represented Division I programs, at the New England Championships on October 12th.
While at North Kingstown High, McAdams was named team MVP in track and cross country all four years. She was named All-State in cross country as a freshman, junior, and senior, and also earned All-New England honors as a senior.
Stonehill returns to action on November 10th at the NCAA Division II East Regional Championships, held at Franklin Park in Dorchester, Mass., and hosted by Stonehill

The 2nd Annual NKXC Ekiden Relay and
                          Senior Night Under the Lights

North Kingstown Ekiden Relay

“Under the Lights” @ NK Stadium

A new tradition has begun over the past two years in the form of a relay and night where the athletes and families gather to honor our senior athletes.

The Ekiden is a relay race originating in Japan. Unlike the traditional track relays, an Ekiden is run over a much greater distance with each team’s runner wearing a cloth sash (tasuki) suspended from the shoulder across the chest. The sash is passed from one teammate to the next, like the baton in a regular relay.

The Ekiden Relay, and the name itself, has spread from Japan to different parts of the world including China, Kenya, Tanzania, and now North Kingstown! The first Ekiden Relay was run in 1917, the 50th anniversary of the transfer of Japan’s capital from the ancient city of Kyoto to Tokyo.

 General Race Rules:

* Teams must wear uniforms and…

·       Runners must hand over their sash (tasuki) to their teammate within the exchange area.
·       It is your team captains’ responsibility to make sure all team members are ready in the exchange zone area for their respective hand-off.
·       Runners/spectators should not enter the course or obstruct any of the participants.
·       All runners must run the entire race course with a fair effort.
·       All runners and supporters must display courtesy and sportsmanship at all times.
Attempt to have teams of approximately 6 runners; the distance of each relay leg can be the same or meet officials can designate varying  distances.

NKXC's Julia Pepe

We're very lucky this year to have Julia Pepe join us as an exchange student from Brazil.  Julia lives in an amazing tropical paradise called Cabo Frio on the Brazilian coast.

In the distance you can see the very popular beach and city.  In the center is an island which is a favorite for the locals to swim out to.  I believe Julia said it is called "Japan Island".

Some other pictures from the beautiful tropical paradise of Cabo Frio Brazil.

Here is Julia with some of her team by the North Kingstown track facility holding the brochure from her homeland.

Random Happenings

Allie Reilly is one tough kid as shown here.  You should see the other girl!

When NKXC goes to a meet they bring a LOT of stuff as seen here.  The Jaxinator approves of the superfluous display.

A wise person once said life is about balance.  Here we see squirrel in perfect harmony in his natural setting at Goddard Park.

The NK kids have secret talents.  Bethany risks contaminating her apples at the chance she might drop one on the ground.
