Burlington Invitational

For the past three years NKXC has taken the long trip up to Burlington Vermont to face Vermont's finest XC teams.

Both teams bettered their position at the meet from the prior year.

Kento and Moose blasting latin music a couple of days before the meet.  The NK soccer team warming up for their soccer game on the field were amused.

In Vermont after a long trip and course run the team gets final instructions from Coach Tetreault prior to having a little fun time at the lake.

The team was on the lookout for "Champ" the famed dinosaur of Lake Champlain.

Church Street in Burlington attracts street performers.  The kids look on and take part in a juggling show.

The juggler getting ready to juggle catches a tennis ball thrown by Patrick.

Katy B. breaks into a dance with J.P. looking on.

The team gathers on a rock on church street after Katy, Lily, and Caroline had become street singer performers themselves.

It's race morning and time to make the perfect waffle.  We have a failed waffle attempt from Moose.  But what's really important is the waffle being edible.  Moose has that covered.

Perfection.  Norris shows us how it's done.  Bon Appetit!!!

That's the key.  The spray must be used.

J.P. & Ethan look on in approval of the morning's activities.

Race morning in the park.  It's chip time folks! Putting on the Doritos and Ruffles.

The JV girls are out for a warm up.

The first race of the day.  If you look closely you'll see the NK girls in a good position going into the first turn.

Up the first hill the girls pack up.

Erin places in 9th with Sophie right behind her taking tenth. The JV girls would go on to take 2nd at the meet despite having only five running.

The JV guys with their game faces on hanging out with Coach Tetreault at the starting line.  The serious demeanor of the group is overshadowed by the unusual socks.

At the start it's J.P. leading the team around the first corner.

J.P. in 18th out of the 230 runners approaching the turn into the park.  Members of the UVM Bookstore were on hand to watch the race.

The girls varsity team huddles up with a few minutes to go before the start of their race.

Jack is in good spirits despite losing his shoe in the first hundred meters of the race when another runner accidently stepped on Jack's heal knocking his shoe off.  One could only imagine how difficult it was for Jack in the trail portion of the race but he's not your average kid so his toughness prevailed.  With only five runners in the race representing NK Jack knew that if he dropped out the team score would be tossed out.

The NK girls get out fast in the varsity race.

Bethany, Emma, and Katy start up the big hill about a half mile into the race.

Bethany on the homestretch of the bike path prior to the turn into the park.  Bethany would finish in seventh in the race.  The varsity girls won the day with their first place finish over Essex.

Sam coming back to join the guys after striding out.

Sam gets out of traffic as the crowd squeezes around the corner.  The other North guys are not so lucky but they are able to work free and run their race after the bend in the course.

Sam starts up the hill just behind the leader.  Ethan and Moose work their way up the hill in the pack shown in this picture.

Sam on the final stretch of the bike path with the best individual performance of the day for NK with a third place finish overall.

The guys varsity stands in second place just 8 points out of first.

The girls celebrate on the beach.
The guys on the beach.  Can you spot the pirate in this picture?
Time for some ice cream at the Ben & Jerry's factory.

Coach Tetreault takes control of the ice cream distribution.

For the third year in a row the team stopped at the Quechee Gorge on the way home.

The view from the bridge is frightening!!!

In the souvenir store Kento turns into a Moose!!

Time for a limbo challenge between Moose and Patrick in the Panera parking lot.  Kento sets the bar low here on Patrick.

                  Camp Excel-erate!!!!!!

The NKXC team made it's yearly pilgrimage up to Camp Squanto in Swanzy, New Hampshire.  The out of state location and lack of cell phone reception forced the teams to focus on each other without the distractions from the outside world.

The NK boys offered some photos of their experiences there. Caroline has added a couple of pictures also.

A few of our Senior girls from the original "Great 8" of Freshman year

We had a major earthquake on the day we arrived that sent the guys into the air

We are one big XC family
There is an obsession with ferns amongst the girls not yet understood by the coaching staff but after looking up the fern's meaning we have begun to understand more.  From canadianflowerdelivery.com, "Today, if you are giving someone a fern as a gift, you are giving them the hope that they will have confidence, shelters, wealth, and happiness. This is a great plant to give someone that you really care about."

The guys hanging out with Ross' mattress on the pond

A penny for your thoughts Ian?  I think the guys underestimated the power they were up against.  An "A" for effort though.

                                                                                     This is a good sign

Call the law offices of Vinbury, Wyllie, and Moose and tell them you mean business!

On a recent trip to California Coach McNeiece stopped by the town of McFarland and took some pictures.  On a water tower in town you can see the names from the team that inspired the new Disney XC movie.
